Lester Ponto

Lester Ponto, 89, of Frazee, died on Saturday, April 12, 2008 in the Frazee Care Center.

Lester Oliver Ponto was born the son of Charles and Helen (Schepper) Ponto on May 6, 1918 in Hillsboro, N.D. As a child, he moved with his family to the Vergas area and attended school. He married Lorraine DelMain on April 18, 1944 in Frazee. They made their home near Frazee, where they farmed in Hobart Township and owned Ponto Paradise Point Resort. Lester also worked for Swift Turkey Plant in Frazee and for Dynamic Homes in Detroit Lakes. Lorraine died in 2006. Lester entered the Frazee Care Center in 2003.

Lester enjoyed hunting and fishing in his early years. He traveled to Montana for hunting trips and after retirement, Lorraine and Lester traveled south to Apache Junction, Ariz., during the winters.

Surviving Lester are his son, Charles (Rhonda) Ponto of Ramsey, Minn.; two sisters, Rosanne Robinson in Michigan and Irene Klunder in California; five grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Preceding Lester in death were his wife, Lorraine; his parents, and one brother, Norman.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2008 at the Furey Funeral Home, Frazee with the Rev. William Aufdenkamp officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Frazee.
