October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The opportunity to raise money and awareness is as simple as sending a letter.
The 55-cent Breast Cancer Research semipostal stamp covers First Class Mail postage plus generates funds in support of this important cause. For each stamp purchased, 11 cents is raised for cancer research programs at the National Institutes of Health and Medical Research Program at the Department of Defense.
The Breast Cancer Research stamp was issued at the White House on July 29, 1998. It features artwork of a mythical "goddess of the hunt" by Whitney Sherman of Baltimore. To date, more than 892 million of the stamps have been purchased, raising nearly $71 million for important medical research.
Making a donation is simple. Just visit your local Post Office, call 800-STAMP-24 or go to usps.com to purchase the Breast Cancer Research stamp. Then send a special message every time you mail a bill or letter.
