LETTER TO EDITOR: Be on guard against corrupt Biblical teachings

Email

To the editor:

I agree with Mr. Kelsey's warnings to "judge not" and "beware of leaven;" Jesus adamantly warned His disciples of a very dangerous element which can creep in to the church. Leaven causes fermentation, which has an altering or transforming influence that corrupts or breaks down the mass from its original form. It's a substance, like yeast, when added to an entity modifies or changes the whole batch of whatever it's added too. Its influence is extremely toxin. Jesus said; beware and take heed!

Caution! This is very important. You must listen and pay close attention to what I'm about to say. Be on your guard against an altering agent that works subtly to modify and pervert my teaching. You need to remain alert and be extremely careful to the dangers of an influence that, when mixed with my Word, will corrupt it. Leaven is detrimental to the church, perverts Christianity, and nullifies God's Word. Four cancers of leaven: philosophy, tradition, doctrines and religion.

1) Human philosophy- See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ. Col. 2:8

2) Traditions of men- Jesus replied "Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: "These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men." You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men." You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions! Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. Mark 7

3) Denominational doctrines-"Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees." (Two well-known denominations of that day) Matt. 16:12

4) Dead religion-having a form of religion but denying its power. 2 Tim. 3:5 "men who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit." Jude:19 It's impersonal, ritualistic, powerless, and without the Holy Spirit.

I also agree that judging is wrong. Publicly calling out an individual by name and characterizing them as self-righteous qualifies as judging; exposing ungodly ideologies that destroy our country does not. Our nation is at a crossroads and the course that we choose, will effect its survival. My desire is that we not only survive, but flourish. Let us not follow after European atheism and socialism; choosing this godless path is suicide. "One nation under God" Our nation will either be healed or destroyed; its success or failure hinges on whether we choose to serve God or turn our back on Him. "Isa.60:12 the nation and kingdom which will not serve you shall perish and those nations shall be utterly ruined." "2 Chron. 7:14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

Am I without sin? Absolutely not! All have sinned and fall short of God's ideal; there is none righteous, not one. My own righteousness is as filthy rags. Although no man is righteous in and of himself, he can be made righteous. "2 Cor. 5:17, 21 If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, and all things have become new. For God made Him, who knew no sin, to be sin for us; that we might be 'made' the righteousness of God in Him." I'm not self-righteous, but I am righteous. My righteousness is of God. "Eph.4:24 put on the new man, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness." All would be wise to note: The Pharisees main objective was to silence Jesus (the Word); He infuriated them. "Luke 19:47 He taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests, the scribes, and the religious leaders sought to kill Him." Why the unceasing attempts to silence speech, stifle religious expression, and intimidate the press? Because the Word exposes sin, brings conviction, and offends them. "Blessed is he who is not offended because of me. Matt.11:6"

As far as attempting to win favor or status in my church; I already have the title that I covet "son of God" which some may not recognize. "Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us that we should be called sons of God; therefore the world does not recognize us, because it does not know Him." 1 John 3:1.
