Letter to the Editor: Community’s help sought with Relay for Life
The East Otter Tail 2014 Relay For Life is less than two months away: Friday, July 11.
The relay’s organizing committee would like your help to make this our best relay ever.
There are several ways you can help. First – and most immediate – is to create more teams, which are the heart of the relay. Already, we have two new teams and others who are working toward forming a team. These, along with the established teams, are what make the event a success.
If you can join them in “Finishing the Fight” in the war against cancer, or would like information regarding team organizing, call team development chairperson Emily Poulson at 952-210-8531 or relay chair Lisa Peterson at 346-4747.
Soon, the committee will be selecting the Honorary Co-Chairpersons for the 2014 Relay For Life. Those chosen will represent all cancer survivors in Otter Tail County. You can help by supplying nominees for this honor. Nominees must be cancer survivors of any age – even those presently under treatment for cancer.
To nominate a candidate, call Judy Kunza at 346-4714 or Leroy and Ruth Wegscheid at 367-2571.
Also, you can support the local relay by purchasing luminaries from any relay team member. The sale of these luminaries is the source of most of the cancer-fighting dollars raised through the relay event. These luminaries, which light the track on relay night, are decorated to honor a survivor or memorialize one whose life was lost to cancer.
Finally, relay organizers invite all East Otter Tail people to join them on July 11 at the Perham High School track for a unique event that is both fun and purposeful.
