Letter to the Editor: Donated deer hides help Habitat
To all this year’s successful deer hunters, congratulations on your successful hunt. We hope you created cherished memories with friends and family.
As fellow hunters and volunteers with the East Otter Tail chapter of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, we would like you to consider donating your hide to the Hides for Habitat program.
Your recycled deer hide will be worth three times the graded value through matching dollars. The revenue will provide for local Habitat projects, as well as youth hunter education.
In 2010, statewide, the MDHA Hides for Habitat program collected more than 30,000 donated hides, resulting in more than $200,000 for Habitat and education programs in Minnesota. This is great news, yet we all know that roughly 175,000 deer are harvested each year.
We can do more when you choose to donate your hide to an MDHA Hides for Habitat box.
Boxes are located around the area, including Mainstreet Express, Cenex and the Locker Plant in Perham, Casey’s and the Locker Plant in New York Mills, Old Dent Oil, the Wagon Wheel in Richville, Carr’s Tree Service in Ottertail, Vergas 66 and Denny’s in Henning.
