LETTER TO EDITOR: Importance of understanding and truth

After reading a letter in which a sincere lady was misquoted and misrepresented, I would like to respond. She was accused of stifling free speech, when all she did was state that she was offended by the disgraceful display of dishonor of the upside-down flag at a tea party in Fergus Falls. I also attended this event and was equally unimpressed by his disrespect. Many commented negatively to his display, but he was not asked to leave; he does have the right to have his opinion, though it was not agreeable to many there. His dishonoring display was legal, but that does not mean that it is necessary. Insulting our country is rude; one can protest without being disrespectful.

Our liberties and individual freedoms have eroded over the last 100 years. Government has increased so that it is barely recognizable. Our President says that we should redistribute wealth and no one notices while we slowly could become a socialist nation going down this path. Art.4 Sec 4 of our U.S. Constitution guarantees us a republican form of government, which does not take monies from one group to give to another. Art. 1 Sec. 8 states that all taxes shall be uniform throughout the U.S.

Regarding a Revolution, here are some reasons that the American Revolution took place:

1. Imposing taxes on us without our the words Tea Party ring a bell?

2. Establishing new offices...czars being put into power without the approval of Congress

3. Refusing Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good. Not protecting the unborn is not wholesome and allowing marriages that are not natural is reprehensible to the 85% of Americans who say that they are Christians.

Living in a conservative, small-town area does not mean that we expect that everyone, everywhere believes the same. We should be able to expect those who claim to be tolerant of all, to be open-minded to a different point of view. All Americans deserve the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; and to keep these from being taken away, people need to take a stand for their country, their Constitution and their independence.
