Letter to the Editor: 'Replacement refs' in churches making bad calls
As a pastor and a man of God, I must make a simple response to last week's letter from a pastor in the area.
The Bible is very clear on the issue of marriage: Genesis 2:24 defines marriage as, "That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh."
In addition, Jesus refers to marriage in the New Testament when He said to them, "A man who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against his wife. In the same way, a woman who divorces her husband and marries another man commits adultery."
And lastly, the Apostle Paul speaks of this when he says... "Every man should have his own wife, and every woman should have her own husband."
After watching the past few weeks of football, I think we all know what happens when we replace the real with the untrained refs - we get bad calls. It saddens me to see how many "bad calls" we are seeing today as we see so many churches, one by one, giving in to the cries of our society rather than the cries of scripture. It's like they are saying, "we don't care what was preached for the past 2,000 years, their message was wrong, we are right."
What the forefathers of our faith preached against, and died a martyr's death for, today is embraced. So sad to see that the preachers of truth have been replaced, and there is uncertain and unbiblical voice heard today!
May God send us the real voices who will speak for God as in the days of old!
The greatest problem is we are not simply talking about a football game here; we are dealing with the souls of mankind.
Though you cannot legislate morality, a person's heart must change, we still must stand, and stand I have done.
