I will retire from the Minnesota House of Representatives in January knowing I went to the Capitol and did my best to represent the people in our area.
I also am humble enough to know I could never have done it alone. It is hard to explain how much I appreciate the support of my wife, Pat, our family and too many other people to name. Thank you for all you sacrificed to help me through four years in the House.
It was an incredible honor to serve in the Legislature. The friendships and memories I gained at the Capitol will last a lifetime.
The decision to retire did not come easily, but my family and I can rest easy knowing we made the right call. Minnesota has a citizen Legislature and I never wanted to become a career politician. I am a longtime hardware store owner who wanted to share some small business perspective and kitchen table common sense with the Legislature.
That mission was accomplished. The time was right to hand the reins to someone else so I can spend more time with my family, including a growing number of grandchildren. Life is short and I want to be there with them.
I am proud of having worked my hardest to be your voice in St. Paul. Now it is time for me to focus on my own house. Thanks again. We'll see you around.
