Letter to the Editor: Slower speeds are needed near Westwind area
Dear Otter Tail County Commissioners and Perham City Council:
I would like to see the posted speed limit on County Road 51 north of Perham, between Pinewood Lane and 450th Street, remain at a consistent 30 or 35 miles per hour.
The current speed limit goes from 30 to 55 miles per hour. The 55 miles per hour is an assumption, as the signage is unclear and inconsistent.
This is a populated area with many new homes and lots of children and people crossing County Road 51 to use the bike trail and park areas. Even with part of the road having a 30 mile per hour limit, many drivers drive over the speed limit. Excessive speed and acceleration in this area makes pedestrian crossing of the road unsafe.
As a resident of Perham living in the Westwind area, I would appreciate a reduction of the speed limit and clear signage of the reduced speed limit.
