Letter: Levy elephant
Another year another levy...
The elephant in this room that is never discussed is teacher wages. If the levy is voted down that means a wage freeze for everyone, and me. Our income will stay the same due to nonew property taxes.
If the levy is voted in, that means a wage cut for everyone by increasing our property taxes over five years.
The teachers and faculty are at a wage freeze and are not looking at a wage cut. The elephant in the room is why not? The budget for the school is $15,000,000 per year and 70 percent goes for wages to 104 teachers and staff. The national average wage for teachers is $44,000 per year.
Is this levy truly for the kids or the teachers? If the teachers and faculty are not willing to take a wage cut don't ask me and everyone in this school district to.
