Funeral services were held for Lila Kujala of New York Mills, Minnesota on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills, with Pastor Don Salo & Pastor Andy Tumberg officiating. The hymns were sung by the congregation, accompanied by Louise Amberg. Special music was provided by Andy & Janet Tumberg. The pallbearers were John Blom, Keith Blom, Jacob Perius, Jason Perius, Earl Tumberg and Danny Tumberg. Lila was laid to rest in Woodland Cemetery, New York Mills, Minnesota.
Lila Kujala was born on April 7, 1915 in Sebeka, Minnesota. Her parents were the late John & Anna Blom. Lila graduated from Sebeka High School with the Class of 1934. Lila was employed by various stores as a clerk. She was also a telephone operator for many years. Lila was united in marriage to Jacob "Jack" Kujala on August 21, 1943 in Deer Creek, Minnesota. They resided on the Iron Range for several years. Jack was employed in the mines. They moved to New York Mills. Jack passed away on June 2, 1988. In 2005 Lila moved into New York Mills. She was an avid reader and visited the Elders' Home where she loved to play bingo and help people. On June 21, 2009 Lila passed away at the Elders' Home in New York Mills, Minnesota at 94 years of age. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Preceding Lila in death were her parents; her husband, Jack and several brothers and sisters.
Lila is survived by her brothers: Elmer (Charlene) Blom of Fresno, California and Art (Lillian) Blom of Sebeka, Minnesota; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
