Local plot results are now online
The Otter Tail and Grant County Corn and Soybean Growers, with plot cooperators, have harvested this year’s corn and soybean variety trial plots, providing data for growers across the region.
The data was just released online last week, at a time when growers are making their variety purchasing decisions for the next growing season.
“We are working the University of Minnesota on replicated trials for our plots,” said Brian Kjesbo, Chairman of the Otter Tail and Grant County Corn and Soybean Growers. “We believe that system gives an independent assessment of the varieties on as level of a playing field as we can provide.”
The growers group feels this plot data is valuable to local farmers as it allows them to assess local varieties on various soil types.
Each year, the growers work to provide variety trial data for both corn and soybeans to local farmers. Results from this year and past years can be found on the growers’ website, ottertailgrantcountycornandsoybeangrowers.com.
The local growers group is affiliated with the Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council, which oversees the investment of soybean checkoff dollars on behalf of approximately 25,000 farmers in Minnesota. The council is governed by the rules of a federally mandated checkoff program that requires all soybean producers to pay a fee on the soybeans they sell. Funds are used to promote, educate and develop market opportunities for soybeans.
