Rural Perham murder: Pipe wrench reportedly used in brutal killing of mother, son

Lon R. Ehrich, 56, of Perham, passed away at his home on Dec. 9, 2013. He was born on Sept. 20 1957 south of Fergus Falls, Minn., to parents Arlan and Loraine Ehrich.

He worked at Industrial Finishing Services where he had many talents including painting and sanding, but most of all he was best at lightening the mood. Lon loved to bake and was a very good cook. In his free time he enjoyed shooting his bow and arrow, being outdoors, playing with his dog Allie, and most of all riding his motorcycle. He had a very big heart; he could always make you laugh or smile with his jokes and quirky personality. He was very funny and caring. He loved kids whether they be his own, his grandkids or anyone else's. Lon was a free spirited and good man, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all. He will be forever loved and missed by many.

Lon is survived by his girlfriend of many years, Amy Washek; two step-daughters, Tabitha and Tiffany Washek; and grandson, Dominic Washek of Perham and Willmar, Minn. He also left behind his youngest daughter, Karein Ehrich (Theresa Johnson, her kids, John Johnson, Jeff Watson, and Krissy Flatgard); oldest daughter, Angela Nickolauson (Rhonda Nickolauson); and his grandchildren, Darion, Jayron and Zayden of Wheaton, Minn.; his mother, Loraine Ehrich; his brothers, Tom (Nancy) Ehrich, Maurce Ehrich and John Ehrich; and his sisters, Barb (Bruce) Larson of Arizona, Dixie (Richard) Hoeper of South Carolina and Patty (Marvin) Hernwal.

Proceeding Lon in death is his father, Arlan Ehrich; and his brother, Ricky Ehrich

Memorial service is to be held at Olson Funeral Home, 711 Pebble Lake Road, Fergus Falls, on Monday, Dec. 16, at 1 p.m. Those who knew Lonnie are welcome to come and share any memory, we understand.
