Long Prairie Chamber Orchestra to feature guest soloist Eeva Savolainen
Nordic Voices, a concert featuring music from Nordic composers Edvard Grieg and Jean Sibelius, will be presented by the Long Prairie Chamber Orchestra on Saturday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle High School auditorium in Long Prairie.
The guest soloist will be Eeva Savolainen.
The evening will begin with the singing of the national anthems of Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland by the orchestra and audience members, with piano accompaniment.
The orchestra will then present a varied Nordic program including Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite and Sibelius’ Karelian Suite, Valse Triste, and Finlandia, and will feature Savolainen.
Savolainen, a soprano soloist, is a native of Finland and a highly sought soloist throughout the Midwest and Twin Cities. Educated at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland, she now resides in the Twin Cities area with her husband, Kari, a trombonist with the Minnesota Orchestra.
Savolainen is a freelance soloist, composer and manager for the professional choir, The Singers. She and her husband are producing an arrangement of Satumaa especially for the Long Prairie Chamber Orchestra to perform.
