Lora (Mastin) Moss 1923-2013

Lora Gertrude Mastin was born on Dec. 12, 1923, at home in Center, N.D., to Virgil D. and Elsie (Eckenrode) Mastin. Lora grew up on the family farm in Center, until she was 10 years old. The Mastin family moved to Richwood, Minn., for two years, then moved to Spruce Grove Township where the family continued to farm.

On Oct. 15, 1940, Lora was united in marriage with Laurence Robert Moss Sr., in Spruce Grove Township, Becker County. Their marriage was blessed with seven children. In 1951, Laurence and Lora moved to Erie, N.D., where they raised their family and operated a restaurant. In 1962, the Moss family made their home back in Spruce Grove Township. Laurence Sr. passed away on March 24, 1995. Since July of 2006, Lora resided at Perham Living.

Lora enjoyed gardening, canning, crocheting and mowing the yard. She even crotched special quilts for each of her grandchildren. Lora loved to laugh, spend time with her family and provide them all with fresh baked goods.

Lora passed away peacefully on Jan. 15, at Pine Harbor within Perham Living, Perham, at age 89. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Preceding Lora in death were her parents; husband, Laurence Robert Moss Sr.; daughter, Valerie Beiningen; son-in-law, Norman Schulz; sister, Opal; and brothers, Vernon, Jake and Gerald.

Lora is survived by her sons, Laurence Jr. (Linda) Moss of Menahga, Minn., and Bruce Moss of Tulsa, Okla.; daughters, Myrna (Regg) Wenaas of Perham, Diana (Donnie) Jokela of Spokane, Wash., Bernadine Armstrong of Tulsa, and LaDawn (Randy) Anderson of Huntsville, Tenn.; 22 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Ivan (Gen) Mastin of Montevideo, Minn., Edwin Mastin of Detroit Lakes, Minn., Virgil (Pat) Mastin of Detroit Lakes and Gordon (Carol) Mastin of Park Rapids, Minn.; sister, Joyce (Bruce) Pederson of Montevideo; sister-in-law, Marie Oelke of Perham; son-in-law, Ben Beiningen of New York Mills; many other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Jan. 19 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Evergreen, Evergreen Township, with Pastor Anthony Cloose officiating. The hymns were sung by the congregation and accompanied by Karen Meyer. Special music was provided by Gayle Dretsch. The pallbearers were Lora's grandsons, Todd Wenaas, Dean Moss, Terry Wenaas, Troy Wenaas, Troy Perna, Leon Moss, Joel Schulz, Darin Perna, Ronald Schulz, Cody Jyrkas and Keenan Jyrkas. Honorary pallbearers were all of Lora's granddaughters. Lora was laid to rest in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery of Evergreen.
