Loren Thalmann, age 75 of Henning, MN died on Wednesday June 17, 2009 at the Henning Golden Living Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Monday June 22, 2009 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Henning, MN with Pastor Randy Maland and Pastor David Cloeter officiating. Music will be provided by Doreen Salvog, organist with Rod Thalmann accompanied by Ruth Bosse, vocalist. Casket bearers are: Alan Cloutier, Mike Sanders, Rod Thalmann, Pete Thalmann, Jason Tiede, and David Sanders. Interment is in St. John's Cemetery at Ottertail, MN. Visitation is at the Belmont Funeral Home in Henning, MN on Sunday June 21, 2009 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. Loren Alvin Thalmann was born in Ottertail, MN on March 24, 1934 the son of Herman and Eleonora (Grefe) Thalmann. He grew up at Ottertail and was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church at Ottertail. He attended St. John's Parochial school through the eighth grade and graduated from Henning, MN High School with the Class of 1953. He served in the US Army from 1956 until 1958. He then worked for Oliver Mining Company in Eveleth, MN and also raised turkeys for Henning Hatchery. He was united in marriage to Janice Tiede on October 7, 1961 at St. John's Lutheran Church. They had three children. They made their home on their farm at Ottertail until January of 1969 when they moved into Henning and opened Thalmann's Cafe, which they operated until August of 1973. Loren began selling life insurance in April of 1960 and was active in the Thalmann Insurance Agency until his retirement in October 31, 2008. He loved selling the best insurance that was suited for his clients for 48½ years and kept in touch by calling them on their birthdays every year. He liked to bowl, fry pancakes, fish, hunt, build birdhouses, play cards, and raise ducks and geese. He especially loved to go fishing with his little grandsons. Loren loved to take family vacations which included Branson, MO, Alaska, Hawaii, and many other areas of the United States. Loren was active in Henning. He was a member of the Henning Volunteer Fire Department, the Commercial Club, Clement Manor board, Henning Homes board, Henning Food Shelf, Henning Lions Club, St. Paul's Lutheran Church Council, and he served 17 years on the Henning City Council.

Loren is survived by his wife: Janice; daughters: Lori Kay (Joe) Pytlik, Horace, ND, and Becky Sue (Mark) Eisenwinter, St. Cloud, MN; grandsons: Ian and Evan Pytlik and step-grandchildren: Olivia, Aubree and Jake Eisenwinter; sister: Elvera (Bernard) Sanders, DePere, WI; brothers: Victor (Jackie) Thalmann, Grand Junction, CO, and Roland (LaVey) Thalmann, of Ottertail; brothers-in-law: Dennis (Judy) Tiede, Wadena, MN, and Dana Tiede, Port St. John, FL; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by a son: Craig Herman Thalmann on June 10, 1964; his parents: Herman and Eleonora; and a sister and brother-in-law: Elaine and Leonard Cloutier.
