Lucelia Grace Smith
Lucelia Grace Smith, 91, of White Earth, died Thursday, Jan. 22 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes.
She was born Jan. 19, 1918 in White Earth to George and Sophie "Mindemoyahn" (Rock) Boswell. She was raised in Pine Point Township near Ponsford and attended school in Pine Point, the Flandreau (S.D.) Indian School and the White Earth (Minn.) Mission School.
She married Steven Smith. She then worked as a cook for logging camps in the Walker-Nevis area. Her husband died in 1952 and she moved to Minneapolis in the early 1950s. She moved to White Earth in 2000 and to St. Mary's Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes in 2003.
She is survived by four sons: Duane Conklin, of Everett, Wash., Ed (Sandi), of Pine Point, Richard VanMeder, of Wisconsin, and Melvin, of Minneapolis; six daughters: Renee Martin, of St. Paul, Jan (Paul) Bohling, of Aberdeen, S.D., LuAnn, of Seattle, Wash., Sharon, of Bemidji, Lorelei Robinson, of Blooming Prairie, and Leah Olson, of Austin; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and a brother, Clarence Melvin "Ole" Boswell, of Minneapolis.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons: Roger and Steven; five brothers: Cyral Howard, and Clifford, John, Fred and Bill Boswell; and six sisters: Evelyn Leitheiser, Anna Goodman, Myrtle Thompson, Agnes, Rose and Katherine.
Visitation: 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25 until the time of the service on Monday at the old Pine Point School.
Funeral service: 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26 at the old Pine Point School in Ponsford, with Mother Lisa Smith officiating.
Interment: In Pine Point Township.
