M-State 50th anniversary celebration
A full schedule of activities is planned for Friday and Saturday, September 24-25 as Minnesota State Community and Technical College - Fergus Falls celebrates its 50th anniversary on the college's homecoming weekend. Alumni, former staff and community members are welcome to all events.
Events begin at 2 p.m. Friday with a reception for the Alumni Art Show, which will feature artwork by more than 25 former arts students and instructors from the Fergus Falls campus. The reception will continue until 4 p.m., when there will be a presentation of a portrait of Wesley Waage, who was dean of Fergus Falls Junior College when it began in 1960 and later served as the college's president. The portrait was painted by Fergus Falls alumnus Scott Gunvaldson and is a gift from members of the college's first graduating class.
The anniversary's Celebration Event begins with a picnic supper, served from 5-6:30 p.m., followed by a program, "A 50-Year Legacy Continues," hosted by former college President Ken Peeders at 7 p.m. The program will also include a performance by the Alumni Choir directed by Teresa Ashworth.
A concert at 8 p.m. will feature M State instructors Anthony Miltich and David Stoddard, with appearances by several local musicians.
Saturday's events begin with the Spartan 5K Run/Walk at 9 a.m.
Also on Saturday:
10 a.m. - Faculty/staff and alumni coffee in Legacy Hall.
11 a.m. - Alumni volleyball.
Noon - Alumni baseball
Noon - Family fun time (climbing wall, face painting, bouncy house, games).
Noon - Spartan Boosters brats and concessions.
3 p.m. - Spartan football vs. Ridgewater Warriors.
A limited number of tickets will be available at the door for $15 on Friday, September 24.
