The Health Information - Technology Specialist certificate will provide training in the use of information technology to improve the handling of patient health records. The certificate is designed both for health care professionals already working in HIT or IT, and for students who are currently enrolled in an HIT, IT or computer programming program.

Demand for workers in the HIT field is being driven by recent federal legislation, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, and by implementation of the newly revised international medical classification system known as ICD-10.

M State’s online course is designed to make it possible for busy students and professionals to complete the certificate without driving to a campus for courses. Both working professionals and current students may receive certificate credits for courses they have taken previously.

M State serves students at four campuses in Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls, Moorhead and Wadena.
