Funeral Mass was held for Mabel Hoogveld, 90, of Perham, on Dec. 11 at St. Henry's Catholic Church in Perham, with Fr. Matthew Kuhn officiating. The pallbearers were Calvin Janke, Keith Janke, Jeffery Janke, Clayton Arthur, Sean Bundy and Scott Bundy. Mabel was laid to rest in Bull Dog Lake Cemetery, Hillman, Minn.
Mabel Johanna Eklund was born on April 24, 1922 in rural Menahga, Minn., to John and Ruth (Johnson) Eklund. Mabel grew up on the family farm. She was united in marriage to Harry J. Hoogveld and they made their home and farmed in Butler, Minn. In 1973 they retired and moved to Garrison, Minn. on a 40-acre hobby farm. On May 10, 1993 Harry passed away. In 1995 Mabel moved to Perham where she resided at Lakeland Apartments. She enjoyed spending time with her family, dogs, gardening, baking and cooking meals for the hired help. On Dec. 7 Mabel passed away at Perham Health in Perham. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Preceding Mabel in death were her parents; husband, Harry; daughter, Sonja; son-in-law, Gaylord W. "Rick" Bundy; brother, Alvin Eklund; and sister, Anna Janke Jokela.
Mabel is survived by her grandchildren, Scott (Stephanie) Bundy of Lino Lakes, Minn., Lynn Bundy of Lake Wylie, S.C. and Terra Bundy of Port Charlotte, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Sean Bundy, Sarah Bundy, Chelsey Bouchard, Aaron Hellerud and Brett Hellerud; sister, Myrtle Marjamaa of Butte, Mont.; sister-in-law, Inez Eklund of Menahga; other relatives and a host of friends.
