Man found guilty of stealing from his ex
A Menahga area man who took items belonging to his girlfriend and then after the relationship ended told her she “was never going to get her things back” has been found guilty of theft.
An Otter Tail County District Court jury issued its verdict on April 10 against Richard Willmar Rapatt, 58. Sentencing is scheduled for May 30.
Rapatt had been charged with theft and transfer of movable property as well as violation of an owner’s rights.
According to court records, Rapatt and the complainant, an adult female, were in a relationship that started in late 2010 and ended in December 2011. During that period of time, Rapatt moved several valuable items from the woman’s residence to his own.
These items included coins, gold and silver pieces, two snowmobiles, a fifth-wheel camper, Dodge pickup and appliances.
Records state that Rapatt told the woman she was “not allowed to come back ever again and that she was never going to get her things back.”
During the jury trial, 11 witnesses were brought to the stand on behalf of the plaintiff and two were called on behalf of Rapatt.
