Man hurt in crash with train
An Akeley, Minn. man was injured Sunday in an accident with a train near Bluffton.
According to a report from the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office, a 2000 Lincoln 4-door car was hit by a westbound train on the tracks near U.S. Highway 10 and 620th Ave.
The accident was reported at about 4:45 a.m. by BNSF Railroad.
Upon investigation by the sheriff's department, the vehicle was found empty on the tracks. A search was conducted, with assistance from the Bluffton Fire Department, Wadena Police Department, Wadena County Sheriff's Department, Minnesota State Patrol troopers and their helicopter, and BNSF crewmembers.
After the search, Harold Hartwig Jr., age 31, was located and claimed to be a passenger in the car during the accident. He suffered lacerations and other minor injuries, and refused medical transport.
Information about the vehicle's driver is unknown. The accident remains under investigation.
