Man, woman in court for drugs found in vehicle
A Ponsford woman and Detroit Lakes man made their first court appearances in Becker County District Court after police allegedly found drugs in the vehicle they were in.
Sara Jacqueline Annette, 27, of Ponsford and Paul Anthony Smith, 44, of Detroit Lakes were arrested after an incident that happened Aug. 14. According to the complaint filed with Becker County District Court, White Earth police obtained a warrant to search a silver Dodge Durango that was parked at a residence in rural Becker County.
Smith was reportedly in the driver’s seat while Annette was in the passenger seat of the vehicle. Officers found a digital scale, white crystal substances and three baggies of methamphetamine in the vehicle.
Annette faces a felony fifth degree drug possession charge and a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine, while Smith faces a felony third-degree drug possession charge and a maximum of 30 years in prison and a $250,000 fine or both.
Smith has a prior conviction of fifth degree controlled substance in Hubbard County dating back to 2011.
