Funeral services were held for Marie Oelke, 85, of Perham, on Sept. 23 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Corliss, rural Perham, with Pastor Anthony Cloose officiating. The hymns were sung by the congregation and accompanied by Karen Meyer. Special music was provided by Gail Dretsch and Amanda Briard. The pallbearers were Marie's grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Marie was laid to rest in Spruce Grove Union Cemetery, rural Menahga, Minn.

L. Marie Moss was born on Oct. 28, 1928 in Evergreen Township, rural Frazee, Minn., on the family farm. Her parents were Leo James and Lila Ottila (Borth) Moss. Marie was baptized in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Evergreen and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee.

When Marie was a small child the family moved to Spruce Grove Township, rural Menahga. She attended Frazee High School and went on to Detroit Lakes Business College in Detroit Lakes, Minn. On Sept. 13, 1945, Marie was united in marriage to Marlin Bennie Oelke in Moorhead, Minn. Their marriage was blessed with eight children. They resided in Fargo, N.D. for two years and made their home in Spruce Grove Township from 1948 to 2000. Marie was employed at Wolf Lake Co-op and H.W. Carter Outer Wear in Park Rapids, Minn., in the cutting department. In 1988, Marie moved her business, Country Tailored Designs to Perham and sold her business in 1999. Marlin passed away on April 19, 1993. Marie moved to New York Mills in 2000 and then made her home in Perham in 2003. She enjoyed making custom lampshades, sewing and crafts.

On Sept. 18, 2013, Marie passed away at Sanford Health in Fargo, N.D. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Preceding Marie in death were her parents; her husband, Marlin; son, Mark; grandson, Chad; grandson-in-law, Troy; brothers, Edward, Lawrence, Orvil and Levi.

Marie is survived by her daughters, Rita (Dale) Hendrickson of Wolf Lake, Marlene (Donald) Coleman of Corcoran, Lucille Carlson of Blaine, Lila (Darrell) Krabbenhoft of Ulen and Lola (Jon) Bachmann of Frazee; sons, Orvis (Sandy Waite) Oelke of Lemon, S.D. and James Oelke of Ramsey; 24 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.
