Marvin W. "Tory" Olsen, 89, of Lake Park, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 1, 2008, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley and surrounded by his loving family.
Tory was born to Thore and Mary Olsen on Dec. 3, 1918 in Truman, Minn., where he grew up and attended school, graduating from Truman High School in 1936. On June 28, 1952, Tory married Edlin Deloris Rikhus in Altanta Church. They made their home in Lake Park, for 45 years. At the time of Tory's death, they lived in Detroit Lakes. They were blessed with four children. Tory was baptized and confirmed at Waverly Luthern Church.
In his desire to be a true entrepreneur, Tory was owner of Ulen Electric, Tip Top Cafe, Fashion Cleaners and Bec Lin Foods, Inc. God gave him a passion for sports. He was an active participant and spectator in athletic sports, and was an avid gardener. He loved spending time in his yard and garden. Flowers and vegetables were his passion. He was also a golfer, fisherman and hunter.
Tory was a member of Lake Park Lutheran Church for 55 years. He served on the church council and provided custodial services to the church. He left a legacy of love to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They were the apple of his eye. He will be missed dearly by family and friends.
Surviving Tory are his wife of 55 years, Edlin Olsen;
two daughters Mary Beth (Donald) Okeson and Marvel (Jon) Mickelson, both of Detroit Lakes; two sons, Tim (LouAnn) Olsen, of Lake Park and Mark (Penny) Olsen of Detroit Lakes; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Agnes Briethbarth of Trimont, Minn., and Lennie Henslin of Lake Park; sister-in-law, Marna Bellefeuille of Detroit Lakes; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother; one sister; three half brothers; and three half sisters.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service, at Wright Funeral Home, Lake Park.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Lake Park Lutheran Church, Lake Park. Burial will be in Atlanta Lutheran Church Cemetery, Ulen.
