Mavea Julia Kittelson
Mavea Julia Kittelson, 91, of Elk River, formerly of Nevis, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009 at Guardian Angel Care Center in Elk River.
She was born Feb. 28, 1917 in St. Paul to Harrison E. and Bethel M. (Cochrane) Domrese. She grew up and attended school in Minneapolis and St. Paul. She went on to attend and graduate from Miss Wood's Kindergarten and Primary Training School, which is now Macalester College in St. Paul. After receiving her teaching certificate she taught at the elementary school in Nevis.
She married Stanley B. Kittelson on Feb. 8, 1947. They lived in St. Cloud the majority of their adult lives. In 1979, following her husband's retirement, they moved to Detroit Lakes, where they lived until 1999. In 1999 they moved to Elk River. She was a resident of Guardian Angel Care Center in Elk River since Dec. of 2005.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters: Jan (Roger) Bialke, of St. Francis, and Barbe (Tom) Jansky, of St. Cloud; two sons: Curt (Mari Johnson), of Minneapolis, and Rick (Gretchen), of Detroit Lakes; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley.
Memorial service: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14 at Nevis Church of Christ, with Pastor Barry Klein officiating. Congregational Hymns will be "Precious Lord Take My Hand," "Amazing Grace," and "How Great Thou Art. A memorial service will also be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16 at Guardian Angel Care Center in Elk River.
