Minnesotans give big during 'Give to the Max Day'
In just one day, 42,596 donors logged on to GiveMN.org during the second annual Give to the Max Day on Nov. 16. This was 4,000 more donors than in last year's successful giving day. Minnesota nonprofit organizations were given $10,041,021 in 24 hours, reflecting donations as well as matching grants and prizes that were awarded. GiveMN has helped raise $27 million for nonprofit organizations across the state since launching in November 2009.
In addition, GiveMN gave a $20,000 and $10,000 prize grant to the top two nonprofit organizations in the Twin Cities and the top two nonprofit organizations in greater Minnesota. In the Twin Cities, Second Harvest Heartland came in first place and the Animal Humane Society came in second place. In greater Minnesota, the first and second place nonprofit organizations were St. Olaf College and North American Bear Center respectively.
Throughout Give to the Max Day, an individual donor was randomly chosen every hour to have $1,000 added to their donation. Charities of all sizes and addressing diverse community needs across the state, including hunger, autism awareness, animal welfare and wilderness protection received $1,000 grants.
"Last year, Give to the Max Day broke records with more than 38,000 donors giving more than $14 million in 24 hours. This year, we set a goal of breaking our own record by engaging more than 40,000 donors, and Minnesotans made it happen," said Dana Nelson, executive director of GiveMN. "On behalf of the 3,663 nonprofits who benefited from this year's Give to the Max Day, we are so thankful for every single donor who chose to support the nonprofit organizations that work tirelessly to improve our communities."
Give to the Max Day was created to increase giving to nonprofit organizations across the state by engaging as many donors as possible for nonprofits in one day. All donations on Give to the Max Day were made through GiveMN.org, a first-of-its-kind giving website that helps Minnesotans discover, support and engage with nonprofit organizations.
GiveMN is powered by Razoo, a critical strategic partner in making Give to the Max Day a success. Razoo's secure and easy-to-use fundraising platform offered nonprofits and donors options to discover matching grants on Give to the Max Day, when more than $1.9 million in matching grants were awarded.
Razoo also provided eight additional prizes totaling $19,000 as an afternoon boost for Minnesota nonprofits. For each of the two regions, Razoo awarded a $5,000 third place prize, a $2,500 fourth place "Land of Ten Thousand Lakes Prize," a $1,000 grant for the 10th place finisher and the "Gopher State Prize," a $1,000 grant for the 32nd place finisher (representing Minnesota as the 32nd state).

At GiveMN, Minnesota nonprofits can showcase their work and introduce their organizations to potential donors. Customized profiles of Minnesota charities detail their individual missions, programs and events.
The site also lets donors manage their charitable giving by recording online contributions and storing receipts.
