Moenkedick Averages Double-Double to Earn NSIC Player of the Week Honors
BURNSVILLE, Minn.- University of Minnesota Crookston women's basketball player Katrina Moenkedick (So., F, Perham, Minn./Early Childhood Education) was selected as the NSIC Player of the Week by the league office after averaging a double-double in crucial wins over Upper Iowa University and Winona State University. The honor is the first of Moenkedick's career and the first for the Golden Eagle women's basketball program for the 2013-14 season.
Moenkedick is the third Golden Eagle student-athlete to earn NSIC Player of the Week honors so far this season joining Lexie Gauger of the women's soccer team and Chelsea Wiesner of the women's volleyball team. Golden Eagle student-athletes were only honored twice during the 2012-13 NSIC athletic season, showing marked improved overall in the athletic department for the 2013-14 calendar year.
Moenkedick averaged a double-double of 21.0 points and 10.0 rebounds as the Golden Eagles had a huge weekend with a sweep over Upper Iowa and Winona State. She recorded a double-double in an 80-69 win over Upper Iowa Friday as she poured in a career-high 30 points with 11 rebounds on the night. Moenkedick was also huge defensively as she had six steals against the Peacocks. She went 10-of-16 from the field and was 10-of-13 from the charity stripe. Saturday against Winona State, Moenkedick added a near double-double of 12 points and nine rebounds as the Golden Eagles picked up huge win against the Warriors 71-58. Moenkedick went 4-of-11 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. On the weekend she finished the weekend shooting 51.8 percent from the field and 82.3 percent from the charity stripe.
She comes into this weekend's road games against Wayne State College and Augustana College (S.D.) averaging 16.2 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per game to lead the team in both categories. Moenkedick is among the top 15 scorers and rebounders in the NSIC this season. She was an NSIC All-Freshman selection last season in her first season with the Maroon and Gold.
