Moorhead gets 117 applications for city clerk job
MOORHEAD -- Kaye Buchholz, Moorhead's long-time city clerk, is retiring and a lot of people would like to have her job.
The city received 117 applications for the post by the time the deadline arrived more than a week ago. The position will become vacant when Buchholz leaves in October.
Moorhead City Manager Michael Redlinger, who will hire Buchholz's replacement, said the number of applications from across the country is likely a reflection of the tough economic times.
"People are clearly in need of work," said Redlinger, adding the city has also seen strong interest in a small number of police officer positions the city is looking to fill.
"It was into the hundreds," he said of the number of applicants.
Redlinger said he plans to select someone for the city clerk job by the end of September to allow that person to receive some training from Buchholz before she leaves.
Buchholz began working for the city in 1979 as a senior office associate.
She has been city clerk since 1985.
Buchholz, who grew up in Dilworth, said she plans to leave the Moorhead area and move to Indiana to be closer to family.
