Jon Ralph Pabody, 53, told a police dispatcher Monday morning that he wanted to turn himself in for molesting two children a couple of years ago, the affidavit states.

Two officers responded to Pabody's home at 2709 14th St. S. and made contact with him in his bedroom.

"Pabody said he wished to admit to and turn himself in for molesting two young girls while they were in his home (day care) center," states the affidavit, which is dated Thursday.

Pabody said the girls are believed to be about 5 and 7 years old now, and that the molestation occurred on different dates, the affidavit states.

Police Lt. Brad Penas said Pabody never admitted to molesting a second girl in any formal interview with investigators.

"That is something he provided right away, right out of the get-go, but never elaborated on it any further," Penas said. "So, at this point in time, we just still have the one charge."

Pabody was charged Tuesday with first-degree criminal sexual conduct for allegedly molesting the 3-year-old girl. The girl's mother contacted Clay County Social Services on March 7 to report that her now 5-year-old daughter told her that she had been sexually abused at the day care, the complaint states.

Pabody told police it happened about 2½ years ago, the complaint states.

Police obtained a search warrant Thursday for Pabody's personal cell phone. According to the affidavit, Pabody was sending a text message to his brother before officers escorted him from his home to the police station Monday morning.

Pabody's wife has closed the home day care center and her offsite center, ABC Infant Daycare at 3505 8th St. S., where her husband told police his wife was when he molested the girl, according to the complaint.

Penas said police have been receiving phone calls from concerned parents of children who attended the day care centers.

"We want the parents to call us if they have any questions or concerns," he said. "We'll look into it the best we can or at least give some direction of how they can handle it or what they can do on their end."

Pabody remains in the Clay County Jail with bail set at $100,000 cash or bond. His next court appearance is set for March 23.
