Moorhead man accused of slapping 13-month-old child
MOORHEAD - Police say a Moorhead father who allegedly slapped his 13-month-old daughter was found hiding in a backyard with the girl and another child.
Officers responded to a report of child abuse at 12:35 a.m. in the 200 block of 10th Street North.
The suspect had fled the residence on foot with his two children before officers arrived, Lt. Tory Jacobson said.
Police set up a perimeter and used a Clay County Sheriff's Office dog to track the suspect to a nearby backyard, where he was hiding with the girl and a 3-year-old child who wasn't physically harmed, Jacobson said.
Kenneth Butcher, 34, was arrested on suspicion of malicious punishment of a child and domestic assault, both gross misdemeanors. He was taken to the Clay County Jail.
Clay County Social Services took the two children into protective custody and had them medically checked, Jacobson said.
