More than 200 expected for 5K-10K Turtle Fest Road Race
Spectators will have a better view than ever, as runners cross the finish line at the 14th Annual Turtle Fest Road Race run June 20.
The finish will be in scenic Paul Miller Park, and more than 200 runners will be crossing the line in an area where the viewing is great, said Jim Lee, race director.
Runners from as far away as Kalamzoo, Michigan, and Nebraska have already registered, noted Lee, and he believes participation may rival his record turnout of 247 in 2006.
The start of the race route has also been revised, noted Lee. The starting line will be further east on Golf Course Road.
Interestingly, noted Lee, half of the runners registered so far, are new to the Turtle Fest event. This will mean many new people will be introduced to Perham and the annual Turtle Fest.
Lee's wife, Lucy, is the official Turtle Fest Road Race "baker," noted Lee. She is baking a total of 900 cookies for the event.
Race day registration starts at 7:45 a.m. with the race scheduled to start at 9 a.m. It will cost $20 to register.
Race organizers hire VIRA Comprehensive Event Timing to simplify and speed up the awards portion and periodic results posted for the early finisher's.
There will be three place winners in each of eight age division for both male and female runners. The first three male and female runners in both the 5K and 10K will receive special awards. The first two male and female finisher's in the 5K walk will also receive special awards.
Masters runners will also be recognized in the 5K and 10K runs.
Runners and walkers of all abilities are welcome to come out and have fun.
