Rep. Mark Murdock, R-Perham recently announced the Science Museum of Minnesota in St. Paul will issue free admission to local residents during Wadena Area Days later this month.

Museum officials said the special event is a show of appreciation for the gracious accommodations their film crews received while in the Wadena area to gather film footage of June's tornado wreckage. Coincidentally, a film featuring twisters was in the works and shots of devastation throughout the Wadena area may be incorporated into the finished product, tentatively scheduled to be shown at the Omnitheater in the upcoming year.

"The museum itself is not looking to gain publicity from this event, but the staff down there said they really appreciate how local folks allowed access to film crews during a difficult time," Murdock said. "They wanted to do something to return the favor and this is their way of saying, 'thanks' to the people in our area."

Free admission will be issued Aug. 26-29 to residents with Wadena, Bluffton, Parkers Prairie, Almora, Deer Creek or New York Mills ZIP codes; visitors will be required to present an ID card when arriving at the museum. Entrance will allow visitors to view the museum's Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit, the "Arabia" Omnitheater film, and other current displays.

In addition, a special 10 percent discount will be provided at the museum's gift store.

While walk-up admission is permitted, visitors may call (800) 221-9444 to secure reservations. Those advance reservation tickets include a $3 per-person fee, which still will be charged to those participating in the Wadena Area Days promotion.

The museum - located at 120 Kellogg Blvd. W. - will be open 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. all four days of the Wadena-area event. More museum information is at http://www.smm.org/.
