Neitzke, Parks win titles in Perham wrestling opener at W-DC
WADENA — A pair of juniors won individual titles for Perham leading the Yellowjackets to a runner-up finish at the Dennis Kaatz Wrestling Invitational Saturday.
Colin Neitzke (152) and William Parks (182) swept their respective brackets.
Neitzke was only tested once in a 7-4 decision over United North Central senior Sam Tellers. After receiving a bye, Neitzke cruised to the 152-pound title win wins over a pair of freshman. In the finals, Nietzke defeated Ethan Kimber of Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 14-5. Nietzke opened his day with a pin at 3:16 over Remington Meager of Long Prairie-Grey Eagle.
Parks won a decision over fellow junior Hayden Truax of Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale for the 182-pound crown by fall at 3:12. Parks opened with a win by fall at 2:50 over Wadena-Deer Creek junior Isaac Malone.
Like Nietzke, Parks was tested in the semifinals. Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus Justin Mackenthun took Parks to a tie at two after regulation with an escape point in the third period. Parks won the match in overtime 3-2.
Mackenthun did get somewhat of a last laugh as Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus took the team title with 211 points. Perham scored 180 for second place followed by Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale with 157 and Thief River Falls with 145.

Bucholz bounced back with a fall of his own at 1:25 over United North Central junior Landon Oshie. Bucholz took third place with a 43-second stick of Douglas Pederson, a junior from Badger/Greenbush-Middle River.
