New digs for Dent
The City of Dent has purchased a play yard ship in an ongoing effort to replace the outdated city park equipment.
The ship was purchased for $5,000, priced down from the original $7,000.
The ship is complete with a fireman's pole, a rock wall, a plank, two swings and a canopy.
This purchase wipes out the current park budget. However, Katie Rosenthal from the Dent City Council said the city's plan all along was to purchase equipment piece by piece, eventually replacing the entire park.
Since a complete new set of equipment can range from $15,000 to $20,000, Dent officials decided to start with a simple set and add on as more money comes in.
Along with the new ship, the city park also has a baseball diamond, a picnic shelter and a walking path. Officials said the old playground equipment was outdated, unsafe, and even leaning slightly.
The metal parts of the current playground are going to stick around for a while, although the city is going to try and replace the parts at some point.
Some of the fundraisers in the past have included a pancake feed and silent auction.
In January, the community club is planning a raffle fundraiser, which will include a variety of prizes, including guns.
