New Horizons hosts auction
The GFWC New Horizons raised over $1,500 at the organization's annual fall fundraiser held Nov. 5 in New York Mills.
With 91 items donated to the auction and 53 bidders attending the event, held at the NY Mills Regional Cultural Center, money raised will help support various community projects.
Each year at least half of the proceeds generated from the auction go directly to the NYM Public Library. The rest of the money is given to help fund a community project selected by the group. The fall auction is the group's largest fundraiser of the year.
Examples of past projects and organizations that have benefitted from the New Horizons club funds are: Santa Anonymous, March of Dimes, teachers' breakfast during National Education Week, After-Prom, city swimming pool and pool passes, school playground equipment, Elders' Home activities and sprinkler system, recycling, park upkeep, the food shelf, Close-Up, ShareHouse, and Someplace Safe.
The New York Mills New Horizons club meets the second Thursday of each month, typically at the United Church of Christ. The group focuses on supporting education and the betterment of women.
