New intern at the Focus
There’s a fresh new face at the Perham Focus. Recent Perham High School graduate Kiowa Wieser-Matthews has joined the team at the newspaper as a summer intern.
From now through mid-August, Wieser-Matthews will be covering various community events for the Focus – writing articles, taking photographs and creating videos.
“I’m really looking forward to working here this summer,” he said. “This is definitely going to be much more fun and exciting than my previous jobs.”
In school, Wieser-Matthews participated in many extra-curricular activities. He ran for the PHS cross country team for four years, and was the team’s video editor for two years. He actively participated as a member of the speech team for six years, and played for the Perham tennis team for four years. He also was a member of the Perham robotics team.
In late August, Wieser-Matthews will be attending the University of Minnesota in Duluth. He intends to pursue a career in genetics, and will major in biochemistry and cellular and molecular biology. He hopes to travel to Japan in the near future.
“We’re excited to have Kiowa join our team for the summer,” said Focus Editor Marie Nitke. “He brings a great energy to the newsroom, and I believe his skills – especially with video – will really enhance our summer coverage of community events.”
In his free time, Wieser-Matthews enjoys reading, video games, watching movies, exercising, target practice, hanging out with friends and more.
