The Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office new operations center opened its doors to serve the public July 21. The new building is located at the intersection of Hwy. 108 and Co. Rd. 55 in the city of Ottertail, near the entrance to Thumper Pond.
The office is staffed Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. After hours, there is direct phone contact to the dispatch center from the front lobby entrance.
The new facility is available to assist citizens with questions, crime reports, obtain gun permit applications and provide other assistance. Obtaining copies of reports will still be handled by the main office in Fergus Falls.
The new center is now home to the Otter Tail County Sheriff's patrol division, water patrol, and narcotics and will have investigations detectives as well. It houses most of the emergency response vehicles including SWAT, Dive Team, Emergency Communications, and Search and Rescue vehicles. A new training facility that doubles as the County's EOC (emergency operations center) including backup dispatch is part of the building. The center also contains evidence processing, including an area for vehicles, interview room for child victims and an intoxilyzer and temporary holding cells.
The main sheriff's office in Fergus Falls will continue to house Sheriff's Administration, Records Division, Civil Process, Dispatch Center, Investigations, Court Security and will also serve citizens that come to the office.
An open house for the public is being planned for the end of August and will be advertised.
