New propane rig for new Lakes Co-op
New name, new territory and a new rig. With the Perham Cooperative Creamery buying the Menahga-based Co-op Sampo, the 2010 new year brought a new name for the expanded operation: "Lakes Area Cooperative."
One of its 120 employees is Kevin Holmer, pictured here with a brand new propane truck that the co-op added to its fleet only three weeks ago. The new rig is valued at more than $100,000.
Holmer, a Frazee volunteer firefighter, brought the new Lakes Area Cooperative propane rig to a joint New York Mills and Deer Creek fire training exercise last week for two sessions. To assist the fire departments with training on how to deal with propane tanks at a fire scene, the cooperative donated about 200 gallons of propane fuel-valued at nearly $400.
