New York Mills man sentenced for 2011 fatal crash
The driver in the crash that killed Ty Bell and injured a 15-year-old girl last summer has been sentenced.
Daniel Resch, now 22, of NY Mills, was convicted of operating a motor vehicle in a grossly negligent manner, a felony offense. He was sentenced Aug. 20 to four years at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud.
According to court documents, Resch was driving 114 mph five seconds prior to impact. One second prior to impact, the vehicle's speed was 91 mph.
The accident occurred July 17, 2011. The vehicle struck a fence post and tree at the intersection of Highway 8 and 575th Ave.
Resch's blood alcohol content measured point-one-three. He told officers he did not remember the accident. He was injured in the crash and transported to the hospital in Perham, where he was treated and released.
Tyler Vernon Bell, a 2011 NY Mills High School graduate and captain of the football team, was killed in the crash. The juvenile girl injured in the accident was also from NY Mills; her name has not been released.
