New York Mills newspapers now microfilmed at history museum
The History Museum of East Otter Tail County recently added microfilm copies of the newspapers of New York Mills to their genealogy lab.
The purchase of 135 reels of microfilm was made possible with a grant from the Minnesota Historical Society. The newspapers include the New York Mills Herald (1915-2005), the United Farm (1930-1931), and the Journal (1902-1906)
The new collection also includes the Finnish language newspapers including Amerusko, the Amerikan Uutiset, Minnesota Uutiset, and Uusi Kotimaa. These newspapers were originally published by Parta Printers in New York Mills. Several years ago, the History Museum of East Otter Tail County received a grant to index the New York Mills Herald and some years are now available on-line at www.HistoryMuseumEOT.org. (A search page is also available in Finnish.) The History Museum has digitized the book 'The History of the Finns in Minnesota' and that is also available through the website.
A microfilm reader/printer is available in the genealogy lab of the history museum, which is free and open to the public year round. Winter hours (through February) are Monday-Saturday 10-3 and Sunday 1-4.
The History Museum of East Otter Tail County is located at 230 First Avenue North, Perham. For more information call 218-346-7676 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
