New York Mills ready to party
New York Mills will be pretty busy during the first Friday of July.
The annual Lund Mania festivities are scheduled for Friday, July 1 this year.
There are several events scheduled for the afternoon, including a free swim day at the NY Mills Legried Community Pool, a classic car show (starting time to be announced), a petting zoo, free pony rides and other kids events from 4-8 p.m. Most activities will be located in Central Park, across the street from the NY Mills City Hall.
Food vendors, including a fish fry by Eagles Café will start around 4:30 p.m., although the exact start time has not been announced.
The annual parade and street dance highlight the festivities Friday. The parade starts at 6:30 p.m. and takes a familiar route through town moving east along Centennial Drive in front of Central Park, north up Tousley, and west on Gillman, ending at St. Peter's Church.
Parade lovers and fishing enthusiasts alike are in for a little added excitement Friday evening.
Winners of the third Lund Mania Fishing Tournament, held 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Otter Tail Lake, will be announced at the end of the parade. The top 10 teams in the fishing tournament will pull their Lund boats in the parade and stop in front of Central Park, where the winning teams will be announced.
Last year, the fishing tournament brought plenty of drama as the first place finishers squeaked by the runners-up with a margin of only .72 pounds.
The party continues at the conclusion of the parade and awards ceremony - estimated at 8:30 p.m. - with a street dance featuring Wild Nights Entertainment. There is no charge to get in to the dance.
A baseball game between Wadena/Deer Creek and NY Mills is also scheduled for 7:30 p.m. that evening.
