No. 1 Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa blows out Park Christian
MINNEAPOLIS — No. 1 Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa (29-1) sprinted past Park Christian (22-10) with an 85-50 win in the MSHSL Class A Quarterfinals at Williams Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota Thursday morning.
The Jaguars broke the game open after a 13-13 tie with a 26-1 run spanning nearly nine and a half minutes of play.
The run continued as BBE went into the break ahead 47-18, outscoring the Falcons 34-5 over the last 12 minutes of the first half.
BBE forced 16 first half turnovers and had a 26-2 scoring margin off turnovers while shooting 55.6 percent (20-36) from the floor in the half.
BBE held at least a 25 point least the rest of the game.
Jaguar senior guard Brian Goodwin led all scorers with 35 points and and had a game-high six rebounds. He shot 17 of 27 from the floor.
Park Christian was led by senior guard Matt Moberg with 15 points and five rebounds while senior forward Hunter Nickel added 14 points.
The final turnover count was 23 for Park Christian to 13 for BBE with BBE capitalizing for a 37-9 edge in points off turnovers.
The Jaguars will continue with their quest for a second state title in the Class A Semifinals on Friday, March 14 at noon at Target Center against the No. 5 Fond du lac Ojibwe (Cloquet) / No. 4 Canby winner.
