No injuries in area structure fires
Fire crews responded to two structure fires in Otter Tail County last week. No injuries were reported in either incident, but a home, boat and numerous other items of value were lost.
First, at 7:17 a.m. on Jan. 14, fire crews were called to Inlet Beach Road on the east side of Lake Lida, east of Pelican Rapids, where a blaze destroyed a lake home.
The fire was too far along when firefighters arrived for them to be able to save the house. Authorities said a wood stove malfunction likely started the fire.
No people were in the home when the fire started. The home’s owner is from Moorhead, Minn.
On Jan. 18 at 12:52 p.m., the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a structure fire on Kort Road in rural Fergus Falls.
Deputies and fire departments from Elizabeth, Pelican Rapids and Fergus Falls responded to the scene, where a steel outbuilding was burning. The outbuilding was detached from the main residence on the property.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s department, the property owners said the outbuilding contained numerous items of value, including a Bobcat loader, boat, Polaris UTV and at least one snowmobile.
The structure and all its contents were lost in the blaze, but no one was hurt.
The cause of the fire was still being investigated at press time.
