Nominations being taken for community leadership award

Nominations are now being taken for the 2013 Chamber Leadership and Hall of Fame awards. New this year will be a third award, for Volunteer of the Year.

These annual awards are the highest honors bestowed by the Perham Chamber of Commerce.

Three individuals from the Perham area will be awarded: one with the Leadership Award, one with the Hall of Fame Award, and one with the Volunteer of the Year Award.

Nominations are being sought for those who deserve recognition for their contributions to the community; those who give of themselves, always working to make Perham a better place to live and work.

Last year, the Leadership Award was split between Perham Health's Directors and Perham High School Boys Basketball Coach Dave Cresap. The Hall of Fame Award went to Pastor Tom Mitchell. Other former winners have included Ken Nelson, Allen Arvig, the Angel of Hope Committee, Lina Belar and many others.

Nominees should be individuals who have done an especially good job in leading the community on a project or an important issue. Frequently, their involvement is one-on-one, helping folks on a daily basis. They also tend to be involved in organizations that help people or help their community, and they are highly generous with their time and talents.

The Leadership Award is given to someone who deserves to be recognized for his or her work for the community. This person would be considered an integral part of the community and highly involved in making Perham a better community. These nominees may be in business or a service sector, working or retired, male or female, living or deceased or even former residents.

The Hall of Fame Award is the chamber's way of showing people how much the Perham community appreciates them and the work they do.

The new Volunteer of the Year Award will honor an individual who has given selflessly of him or herself. Nominees for this award may come from schools, the hospital, a nursing home, civic group, church, community organization, etc.

Nominations should be in writing and brought to, or mailed to, the Perham Area Chamber by Feb. 8, at 185 E. Main St., c/o Sherry Bormann, Perham, MN 56573.

Nominations will be forwarded to the Leadership and Hall of Fame Committee. Nominees do not have to be chamber members.

An awards banquet to celebrate the winners will be held this April.
