Norman B. Erickson, 89, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, April 6, 2008 at St. Mary's Nursing Center, Detroit Lakes.
Norman was born to John and Bertha (Eid) Erickson on Jan. 20, 1919 in the Sundahl Township, near Fertile, Minn. As a young adult he worked with his father in the oil business, as a dealer. Norman married Gladys Knutson on Sept. 17, 1938 in Crookston, Minn. They raised their family in Fertile, and later moved to Detroit Lakes. They moved to Prescott, Wis., where they lived for nine years before returning to Detroit Lakes for their retirement years. Gladys and Norm spent many winters in Surprise, Ariz., and they enjoyed traveling. Gladys died on July 28, 2007.
Norman was always active in his church, school, community and country. He loved music, traveling, woodworking and especially helping others. The thing that made him most proud in his life was his family and his 68-year marriage to his beloved wife, Gladys.
Surviving Norman are his children, Jim (Kathy) Erickson of Saratoga, Calif., Jerry (Pat) Erickson of Prescott, Wis., Jennifer (Gary) Gullekson of Beltrami, Minn., and Don (Lois) Erickson of Virginia Beach, Va.; daughter-in-law, Karen Erickson of Detroit Lakes; two sisters, Myrtle Knutson of Olympia, Wash., and Florence (Jon) Feste of Surprise, Ariz.,; sister-in-law, Katherine Erickson of Moorhead; 12 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Norman in death were his parents; wife, Gladys; son, Norm Jr.; grandsons, Johnny Erickson and Gregory Erickson; and three brothers, Norman, Porter and Albin Erickson.
Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes; visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church Friday.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, April 11, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile, with the Rev. Carl Hanson officiating. Interment will follow at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile.
