Northwestern Minnesota Bishop speaks in Perham Jan. 24 for Calvary's 50th anniversary year
Calvary Lutheran Church of Perham continues its year-long birthday celebration this Sunday.
The 50th Anniversary of becoming part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America will be hosted Jan. 24, with the theme "Celebrate Our Connection to the Global Church."
Special guest for the occasion will be Bishop Lawrence Robert Wohlrabe of the Northwestern Minnesota Synod of the ELCA. He will preach and present an Adult Forum between services that day. Wohlrabe was elected bishop of the Northwestern Minnesota Synod in June of 2007.
Calvary will also celebrate its connection to the worldwide church with an ethnic potluck at noon. Participants are encouraged to bring a dish from another culture--perhaps from your heritage, your foreign travel--or just a "foreign food" you really like.
Calvary will be taking an offering that day for Haiti earthquake recovery, through Lutheran Disaster Response.
Working through the ELCA is the surest way that all of our money goes to people in need, with virtually no administrative expenses or waste, noted Calvary pastor, Rev. Phil Holtan.
