Northwoods Assembly marks 10 years of 'Hot Rod Sunday' August 9
This Sunday will mark 10 years of a unique ministry to the Perham area which has evolved over the years from a simple car show to a weekend of fun, food and prizes for the whole family.
Over the years, the event has welcomed street cars, funny cars, dragsters, NASCAR and Pro Stock Motorcycles. Guests have included the Lucas Family, which produces LUCAS Oil Products; and bike racers Shawn Gann, Connie Cowen, and Reggie Showers. In addition to racers, Mickey and Beth Prestridge are yearly visitors who travel with the racing circuit helping to provide spiritual counsel and service to all involved in the NHRA Racing Circuit.
Northwoods provides an opportunity for the community of Perham to see some nice cars up close and meet some of the racers, as well as provide a short vacation for many of the racers who are heading to Brainerd for the NHRA Nationals the week after Hot Rod Sunday.
This year's event begins at 10 a.m. with a chapel service much like many racers attend before racing on Sundays. Guest speaker Dean Niforatos from Colorado will be ministering this year and free food will be provided after the service. Cars will be available to look at along with fun houses for children and a paintball target station for both kids and adults. A burnout contest will also be going on after the service. Prizes will be drawn at 1 p.m.
Pastor Dirk Currier is the senior pastor of Northwoods and he will be the host of the event. Pastor Dirk also serves as the chaplain of Brainerd International Raceway with Racers for Christ.
