Bridgit Martini of Sebeka was MVP of the first girls game and Betsy Olson of Sebeka won the 3-point shooting contest with 13.

For the boys, there was also a 3-point shooting contest as well as a slam dunk contest followed by three games. Sam Kingbird of Red Lake was the top 3-point shooter, hitting 17. Jared Oswald of Isle was the slam-dunk champ.

In game three, Mike Baune was coached by Dale Finck of Bertha-Hewitt and played against David Snelgrove, coached by Bryan Dunrud and Mike Peeters of New York Mills. Baune scored just four points, but his team came out on top, 74-61. Snelgrove scored eight in a losing effort. Czar Woods of Bemidji was MVP of game three.

In the first boys game, Zac Creviston of Badger-Greenbush-Middle River was named MVP, Taylor Bennefeld was MVP of the second boys game.

Novak 2-2 at National Tournament

New York Mills wrestler Jordan Novak won two matches at the National High School Wrestling Championships last week in Virginia.

Novak wrestled in the national tournament after finishing second at 135 pounds in the Minnesota state tournament last month as a junior.

In Virginia, Novak defeated Matthew Klacik of Pennsylvania, 1-0, in his first match. Novak then lost 9-5 to Benjamin Wilson of Virginia. Novak came back from the loss to beat Sam Ross of North Carolina, 6-3, to stay alive in the tournament. The New York Mills junior state runner-up finished the national tournament 2-2 after losing to Devin Biscaha of New Jersey, 2-0.
