Brandon Kupfer and Austin Erickson combined for the win.

"We had a little shaky defense early in the game and settled down and got a couple big hits when we needed them," Head Coach Tim Kupfer said.

Erickson laced a big two out double; Nick Kupfer had three hits on the day and Adam Patron had two hits.

The state tournament is supposed to begin Wednesday, July 28, in New York Mills.

According to Greg Imsande, two teams from the Baxter area dropped out.

At time of print, no word on an update to the brackets has been received from the district representative.

Vergas defeated Perham in the loser's bracket to face NY Mills, who had beaten Vergas 4-3 in extra innings earlier in the tournament.

Tyler Patron pitched 7 innings striking out 10 Vergas batters.

Patron had to wait around 40 minutes in a weather delay.

NY Mills held a 3-1 lead for most of the game before Vergas began chipping away at the lead scoring one run in the fifth and sixth innings.

NY Mills, known for coming up with interesting ways to win games, gained the victory on a squeeze play in the bottom of the eighth.

Brandon Kupfer was hit by a pitch. Tyler Patron reached first on an error and Daniel Kraft hit one deep in the hole at short and beat out the throw to load the bases.

Adam Patron put down a perfect bunt bringing Kupfer home to win the game.

"Both teams played a good game," Coach Kupfer said. "Tyler Wacker for Vergas pitched a great game as well."
